Money Can't Buy You True Happiness and Here's Why…

“Money makes the world go ‘round,” they say. But does it really?
The short answer is a resounding, “No.”
I saw a video on social media recently, wherein a young man named Don insisted that if he were a millionaire, there is no doubt in his mind that that would make him happy:
“Having an abundance of money… you can use that money to make you happier,” Don says.
“Money is the resource that you use to get to happiness. Money makes the world go ‘round. If you've got money, you can do anything. Technically, you can buy happiness… you can definitely go purchase the means to make you happy.”
Don, however, is neither rich nor wealthy, monetarily. So he is not yet hip to a Truth that every millionaire and billionaire ultimately discovers…
“Money doesn’t make you happy. It never did. History will tell you that.”
So said R&B diva, Whitney Houston, in a TV interview once upon a time. As a global superstar and a multi-millionaire, Whitney experienced first-hand the power of what money can — and cannot — do.
So why can’t money buy you True Happiness in Life?
Well, this is a question I answer in this episode of my Fascinating with Sasha Tobago podcast. Here’s a revised excerpt:
When it comes to the world’s wealthiest people, they have created a capitalistic system with them on top, that benefits them.
That gives them the patina of success. That gives them the money and the cars and the house. And they can have their pick of whatever superficial spouse that they want.
But that is not going to give them True Happiness. Because the expression, money can’t buy happiness, is actually very true.
Why?
Because money is man-made.
It is not part of the natural world.
That’s why you have AJ, a young man experiencing a Quarter Life Crisis. He has a two-story house in California, where real estate is very expensive. He has the car; he has the job; he can buy a big screen TV and then forget that it exists.
He has the material possessions at a relatively early age (his mid-twenties), yet he’s still feeling unfulfilled, and he’s wondering:
“Where is the happiness? Where is the fun? Where is the joy?”
Like AJ, you have been lied to your entire Life about what you should do, value, and pursue in order to live a happy, fulfilling Life.
These societal lies permeate nearly every nook and cranny of Western society, from the media we consume to the schools and churches we attend.
Too many people view relationships and friendships through the transactional lens of money and status — i.e., What can you do for me? How can you benefit me?
The societal lie that money makes the world go ‘round is created and perpetuated by the capitalistic narcissists of our society who, as we have discussed in this episode, have absolutely no idea what True Happiness is or feels like.
Before the invention of money. Before the invention of the stock market. Before the invention of a lot of these things that are man-made. Before the invention of TVs and Rolls Royces and any of these material possessions, you just had human beings in the natural world.
Which means that, what you truly, genuinely need to be happy is based on that which is natural.
It is based on that which man cannot create.
Man cannot create the solution to your happiness.
The Truth about what it takes to live a happy, fulfilling Life is not going to be found in things that are man-made.
Because a lot of these things that are man-made, they were created by narcissists, in order to exploit you and benefit them….
