Life Lessons from Nepal: The Importance of Living a Truthful Life

In September 2025, in the wake of a youth revolution that toppled Nepal's alleged, corrupt government, the young people in Nepal didn't vote in a young and unseasoned leader as their country's new prime minister.

Instead, they voted in Sushila Karki, a 73-year-old, retired chief justice they felt they could Trust.

The word Trust is rooted in the word, Truth. Rooted in the word, True.

Trust is paramount in your personal, individual Happiness. It is paramount in business and corporate leadership. It is paramount in government and political leadership.

In the fictional, TV miniseries, Zero Dayspoiler alert! — the main character, former U.S. president George Mullen (played by Robert De Niro), makes a very tough decision to do the right thing:

To tell the Truth.

Not just half of the Truth. Not just a little bit of Truth.

No, the whole Truth.

In the show, Mullen shares the whole Truth with the American People in a live broadcast, because he understands that Truth is paramount in any and all relationships. Including the relationship between a government and its citizens.

In fiction, the American People entrusted Mullen with an urgent task; and he actually lived up to the level of Trust they bestowed upon him.

This can be a lesson for all of us in the Real World as well. Whether you're a parent; a business leader; or someone who is in government or thinking of running for office.

In September 2025, young voters in Nepal entrusted Karki, a retired chief justice, with an urgent task:

To rebuild Nepal's government with Truth, fairness and transparency; and to help get the country's economy and progressive policies back on the right track.

One of the coolest and most important Life lessons we can draw from this is that:

When you are a Trustworthy person, when you choose to live a Truthful Life of honor, honesty, integrity, authenticity and the like...

People do see it. People do notice it. And people do pay attention.

You never know when, one day, that may come into urgent importance.

When one day, in the wake of chaos or confusion or fear or uncertainty, the people in your country, or your town, or your neighborhood, or your household will look to you to lead them.

Why?

Because they Trust you as a leader.

Why?

Because they have silently watched you make the daily choice to live a Truthful Life, on the roller coaster of Life.

Truth and Trust have not expired. They have not gone out of fashion. No matter what they say in the negative news cycle; no matter what is happening in different, corrupt governments around the globe...

Truth and Trust are still paramount in this world.

They are Universal Truths. As such, they will never go out of style!
