Why Does the 'World Happiness Report' Ignore Suicides, Hate Crimes, Abuse and Violence?

One major thing the University of Oxford, Gallup and the United Nations gloss over in their World Happiness Report 2025 (WHR) —which suspiciously heralds four Nordic nations as the world’s Top 4 “Happiest Countries”…
Is the fact that Finland — shockingly crowned the “Happiest Country in the World” year… after year… after year — has one of the highest suicide rates in the world.
Now, the so-called “researchers” behind the WHR do mention suicide in their report. But, they try to bury it by combining the data along with drug and alcohol abuse rates.
Moreover, there are plenty more shady things they deliberately do, or don’t do, in this report:
#1 — They Don’t Rank Countries Based on Suicide Rate
So you have no clear idea where Finland ranks with other countries in the world. Meanwhile, per recent World Health Organization (WHO) data, Finland has the highest suicide rates in the Nordic region; and one of the highest in Europe.
#2 — They Use Old WHO Data
Another weird thing they do is they use old WHO data on suicide rates per country. The latest data available is 2021 data. But, for some weird reason, in this 2025 report, they’re using 2019 data.
Which means, they ignored 2020 data. And they ignored 2021 data.
Why are they ignoring two years’ worth of data?
#3 — They Don’t Include Social Ills Metrics in Their Main Country-Ranking Calculation
Now, the biggest issue is the fact that these “researchers” don’t include suicide rate and other Social Ills in their main calculation for ranking the “World’s Happiest Countries.”
Instead, they use metrics that are either based on capitalism — the capitalistic system created and controlled by narcissists. Or, they use metrics that are based on someone’s individual perception.
Not reality; not hard data; just perception.
The “researchers” use these six core metrics:
A country’s GDP — a.k.a., created by the man-made system of narcissistic capitalism.
A country’s social support system — a.k.a., exploitatively maintained within the confines of man-made, narcissistic capitalism, like we talked about via the Tiger in a Cage analogy, earlier in this episode.
Healthy life expectancy.
Freedom to make life choices.
Generosity — That’s basically someone taking a survey and talking about how generous they allegedly are. You don’t really know for sure. It’s just someone being like: Oh yeah, I give to charity.
Perceptions of corruption — Not even actual levels of corruption, but rather: perceptions of corruption.
Egregiously enough, there are several major Socials Ills they deliberately ignore in their main country-ranking calculation, including:
Suicide rates
Unemployment rates
Substance abuse rates
Hate crimes and murders
Violence against women and children
Finland has the second highest unemployment rate in Europe.
In what delusional reality is a nation with a high suicide rate and high unemployment the “Happiest Country in the World”?

Manipulation and Misinformation
I have worked on academic research studies and research reports in the past. And, I have been a journalist for a while.
As a journalist, I view and dig through a lot of data. I am constantly in data land.
So I have become hip to a lot of the tricks of the trade so-called “researchers and scientists” use to manipulate data; to manipulate the type of questions they ask; and to manipulate how they calculate the results.
So they can net the results that they want to net.
So they can create the narrative they want to create.
So these WHR “researchers” are doing all kinds of bending over backwards, to try and justify having a bunch of Nordic countries as the Top 4 “Happiest Countries,” while ignoring actual corruption… drug abuse and alcohol abuse rates… hate crimes and murders … child trafficking... violence against women and children… suicide rates… unemployment rates… and more.
So you have to question, and that’s my job as a journalist to question it on your behalf:
Why aren’t they using recent data in their World Happiness Report 2025?
Why aren’t they including Social Ills metrics (suicide, substance abuse, hate crimes, unemployment, etc.) in their main ranking calculations?
They mention some of these Social Ills in their report, but they don’t include them in their main country-ranking calculation.
And it’s quite clear as to why they don’t include them.
Because if they did, Finland would not be falsely exalted as the World’s Happiest Country.
Not even close.
