President George Washington’s Legendary Eggnog Recipe

In the U.S., you know it's Christmastime when eggnog starts popping up on grocery shelves.
In fact, Christmas Eve, December 24, is National Eggnog Day.
George Washington, America’s first constitutional president, and his wife, Martha, loved entertaining during the holidays. She with her Great Cake recipe. And he, legend has it, with his 4-liquor eggnog, featuring rye whiskey from his Mount Vernon distillery.
This boozy ‘nog is so lush, you and yours will be slurring Christmas carols in no time!
Ingredients
1 pint, brandy
1/2 pint, rye whiskey
1/2 pint, Jamaica rum
1/4 pint, sherry
1 quart, heavy cream
1 quart, whole milk
1 dozen, eggs
12 tbsp, sugar
Directions
1) Mix the 4 liquors.
2) Divide the egg yolks and whites into separate bowls. Set the whites aside till they reach room temperature.
3) Beat the egg yolks, add sugar and mix well.
4) Combine the yolk mix and the liquor mix.
5) Add milk and cream, beating slowly.
6) In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites till stiff, then slowly fold them into the mix.
7) Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 5 days (doing so cures the eggs and enhances the flavor).
8) Serve garnished with a sprinkle of nutmeg... a cinnamon stick... a candy cane, or the like.
9) Then, in the words of President Washington: “Taste frequently!” Yum!
